Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
A urine culture can help determine which type of bacteria is responsible for a UTI, an uncomfortable infection in the urinary tract.
It’s awfully simple to get a urinary tract infection (UTI). A bacterial infection in the urinary system can affect any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. The majority of infections do involve the lower urinary tract – the bladder and urethra.
Because of anatomy, women are much more likely to get a UTI or a bladder infection, and it can be quite uncomfortable. When a UTI develops in other people, it’s usually considered more complicated and often involves inflammation of the prostate gland.
After collecting a urine sample, it may determine what type of bacteria is responsible for the infection. Your healthcare provider can then guide your treatment with health interventions like antibiotics and hydration guidelines.
Visiting a health provider without delay can prevent bacteria from spreading to the kidneys, and causing a kidney infection, which is more concerning.
